Chesterfield is famous for the ‘Crooked Spire' of its Parish Church. Legends surround it but the truth hinges on the weight of the lead tiles that cover the Spire’s wooden framework – all 32 tons of them! Chesterfield's other claim to fame is its open air market, one of the largest in the country. There are markets on Monday, Friday and Saturday all year, with a Flea Market every Thursday and a Farmers’ Market on the 2nd Thursday of every month. This will take the form of a talk and presentation by local historian and archaeologist Rene Mouraille - Newark Castle Ranger. He will present and put forward evidence about the legend of Robin Hood and other outlaws of the time. Rene will be happy to discuss his sources with members of the audience.
